Back to Basics - Selecting stuff

We already covered Ctrl + A = Select All.  But there is a whole new world out there when it comes to selecting text and objects in the Windows world. 1. The dragging method.  Hold your left mouse button down and drag and area of text or a box around some files on your desktop or another folder. 2. CTRL selection.  To practice this open your pictures or music folder, wherever you have a lot of files.  Start by holding down the Ctrl button on the keyboard and click on a file then another all while still holding down the Ctrl button.  You click each file you'd like to select.  If you make a mistake, keep holding Ctrl and click the file you want to deselect and it will no longer be a part of your selection. 3. Stay in your folder and click somewhere in the white space or press Esc on your keyboard to deselect everything. 4. Shift selection.  Still in your file folder?  Pick a file to start on and click that.  Press and hold your shift key and click another file.  This will select the series from the start (first file you selected) to the end (last file you selected) 5. Combo Ctrl + Shift.  The trick here is keeping the Ctrl button down the whole time.  You can select multiple files, one at a time like you did in step 2, but if you also hold the shift button with it you can select a series, then another file. Then another series.  This one takes a little practice I'll admit it but it can be a time saver. 6. Keyboard only selections.  Click one file or put your cursor in line somewhere in some text.  Now hold down the shift button.  Now using the arrows move left, right, up and down.  Now while you are doing this, hold down  the control button.  Now instead of jumping one character at a  time left and right and one line up and down, you'll move one word/paragrpah at a time respectively.  You can also use the shift + page up/down and shift + Home/End. WHEeew.  Give them a try.  Good luck and see you next week.
